Question:
Why was SETI, the ‘scientific’ program called the “Search for Extraterrestrial Intelligence”, originally incepted to search for intelligent life exclusively and only through radio signals?

Had the scientists behind this never considered that intelligent life could originate without having developed radio and/or life came to be without radio signals?

Or was this just a clever marketing ploy by radio broadcasters attempting to sell their ‘product’?

Or was it just simply a ‘start’?

.. curious minds want to know about the real history of this program’s start! Not to say it’s not blossomed into something much greater since then, which it absolutely has!

The SETI Institute is a private, nonprofit organization dedicated to scientific research, education and public outreach.

The Institute comprises three centers, the Center for SETI Research, the Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe and the Center for Education and Public Outreach.

Founded in November 1984, the SETI Institute began operations on February 1, 1985. Today it employs over 130 scientists, educators and support staff. Research at the Institute is anchored by three centers. Seth Shostak is Director of the Center for SETI Research, David Morrison is the Director for the Carl Sagan Center for the Study of Life in the Universe. Edna DeVore leads our Center for Education and Public Outreach
